Square1 report

“Wow”, “Excellent”, “Magnificent”, “This is the best thing ever”, “I’m definitely doing this again next year”… We hadn’t been at the Square1 camp for 24 hours yet, but I’d just asked the kids how they would describe the camp so far.
Siu Lin (Blackheath Baptist Church) and myself had taken six Kapow kids and four kids from SRE at Blackheath Public School to the Square1 camp run by Anglican Youthworks at Port Hacking. On the way there we passed 18 emergency vehicles just between Katoomba and Blaxland, but that’s another story!
Once there we joined over 400 children and their leaders in playing games, crawling through the mud challenge, sliding down waterslides, playing soccer, singing, swimming, climbing and bouncing on the jumping castle and doing craft.
We also spent considerable time reading from the book of John in the Bible. We read the Bible in pairs, read the Bible in our small group of 10 kids, and also joined with the 400 other kids there to hear five talks from the Bible. The theme of the camp was “Jesus is the Light of the World”. It was a real joy to see our kids eagerly flipping through their Bibles to quickly find the place and check out for themselves what God says in his word.
“When Jesus spoke to the people, he said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life’” (John 8:12).
All kids in Years 3-6 at school are welcome to go to the Square1 camp each year.
“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it” (Proverbs 22:6).
I can’t wait till Square1 next year!
