Solomon Islands update

Solomon Islands villageJohn and Clare Dowe and I have just spent 3 days in the Islands at the time of the bulletin going to print so it’s a bit early to say how things will transpire with our visit as things take a lot of time over here. Bishop Peter Tasker is keen for us to make as many connections as we can with a view to further involvement of the Sydney Diocese in the islands and already we’ve made contact with a
number of key people and hope to spend time with each over the next week or so to assess the needs of the church here and how we might help.

It’s all about relationships in the islands so having John is fantastic as he immediately opens doors because he is so well known over here. One clergyman described him as ‘the legendary John Dowe who taught us all Greek and Hebrew’. We’re hoping and praying that doors may be open for opportunities to do training in evangelism and bible teaching in a diocese that is very focused on
church rituals.

While you’re meeting today we’ll be visiting the cathedral and another key church in Honiara to further build these links for the future. We’re praying for you and please do pray for us that we will have energy in the heat and that we might know Paul’s experience; “I will remain in Ephesus until Pentecost; for a wide door for effective service has opened to me,” (1 Corinthians 16:8–9)
