During the Olympic Games, St. Hilda's in
Katoomba staged a special art exhibition within
the church, to celebrate the Millennium.
It was a unique
range of paintings, drawings, wood-cuts, sculpture and
banners expressing the Christian faith, featuring artists of international stature like
John Coburn, designer of the famous Opera House
curtains and the late Reinis Zusters, winner of the bronze
prize in Osaka, Japan. Special guests will feature Lesya
Bablyak, icon painter from the Ukraine and Marianne
Gill-Harper from Tasmania.
All together some fourteen artists were
represented, mostly from Sydney and the Blue
Mountains. Beautiful banners by Nita Brown and a major
work by Tom Spence, winner of the prestigious Blake
Prize for religious art, were highlights in the show.
Well-known Sydney identities, Ursula Laverty, Eva
Kubbos and Yve Close and locals David White, Tiiu
Reissar, Conrad Clark, Heather Bloor and Jo Houston were also shown.
Also on show was ‘The Bible in Pictures’ series by Heather Bloor, Anne Hardy, Venita Salnajs & Wendy Tai.
